Teaching London Piano Students

Teaching piano in London can’t be just a matter of delivering standard piano lessons. As piano teachers, we need to be able to tutor the philosophy of learning and making music. I remember my maestro pushing me to sort out things on the spot, to develop an intolerance towards mistakes and to understand the need for total concentration. This perspective requires us to understand the particularities of musical learning and the commitment that it requires. The learning process has to be experienced as a pleasure…

As piano teachers in London, we need to motivate our students to develop an appetite for concerts. A constant hunger that can only be satisfied if they are supplied and stimulated with music. This lays in the core of any respectable musical training. Strange as it may sound, we need to teach how to develop a need. Not a normal biological urge, but an aesthetic need, one that can be satisfied only through aesthetic exploration. There is where the teacher becomes fundamental. Like a tourist guide that formally advises which areas of the world repertoire students should visit and in which order.  A thorough and clever plan aimed to open wonderful world of the music realm.

Hopefully, after the right stimulation students will develop another need: the need to try and share their music with an audience. It is the need to speak that every human being has. As human beings, we enjoy the pleasure of sharing our ideas, of discussing our perspectives on certain musical matters and of being heard. With music is the same. Here in London, the same as in any other at of the world, human beings need to communicate as much as they need to breathe. WKMT London knows that and is proud successfully motivate students to push their musical appetites further.
