Clarifying as much as possible our technical toolbox can save us time and effort. It is a common practice to spend hours rehearsing a passage. But, what if we are rehearsing it using the wrong resources?
In many piano schools, the main objective of practising is to stimulate our brain with the piece as much as we can. With that purpose is that pianists play and play for long hours the same piece. What can happen is that they start using different technical resources to play the same passages without even noticing it. It is great to experiment with piano technique, but maybe on one or two passages… not on the entire piece!
Committing time to try out an endless collection of movements on each passage of a piano sonata, for example, can prove to be a sterile practise. Mainly because we would be perfecting nothing. All these different movements wouldn’t ascend to a stage of perfection, instead, they will always sound as if we haven’t put too much time on them. Why? because we are not focusing on performing them in any specific way.
Due to the latter, technical clarification is extremely important. Scaramuzza technique offers us a clear explanation about a compendium of movements. These piano movements can be used in their pure state or they can be also combined so they become suitable to play any possible musical passage.
WKMT and Juan Rezzuto are committed to explore and explain how these movements work and how to implement them when we perform. Their last release covers “arm movement”.
Arm movement is the largest and most “expressive” piano movement. It allows us to perform large chords confidently and without stressing our smaller muscles. This movement is the one that uses most of the performing apparatus. It involves the hand, the wrist and the forearm. All of them ignited by the pushing of the triceps.
We strongly recommend the reading of the piano lessons for beginners section of WKMT main website. You will always find useful tips about technical resources like this one
